Obituary of Patricia "Patty" Olgeaty

Patricia Olgeaty, 81, passed away peacefully at Martin South Hospital, in Stuart, FL, surrounded by her family. She was born May 13, 1936 in Syracuse, to the late Alice and Patrick Orbino. Patty attended Solvay High School and University College at Syracuse University. She was an administrative assistant in the Syracuse Football office for 22 years, under the staffs of Coach Dick MacPherson, Coach Paul Pasqualoni, and Coach Greg Robinson. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Women’s Fraternity. She was an avid Syracuse University football and basketball supporter and was a member of the Orange Pack, Ernie Davis Club, and SU football community host program. Patty’s family hosted Glaucia Peixoto, an AFS exchange student from Brazil, Morman Elders while on their Mission in the Syracuse area, and underprivileged children from NYC through the “Fresh Air” summer program. She was a charter member of the WCAA, where she organized and coached 12 cheerleading groups from 1969 to 1974. Patty lived in Stuart, FL and was a member of the pastoral staff at St. Christopher’s Church, bringing communion to nursing home patients and homebound members of the parish. She was also a caregiver to several elderly people in her community of Miles Grant. Patty is survived by her husband of 58 years, John, four daughters, Tricia (Richard) Prather, Tina (Reza) Gorji, Tracy (Howard) Gensler, Trudy (Steve) Schaefer; five beloved grandchildren, Sarah & John Prather, Harper and Libby Gensler and Alexandra Gorji; brother, David (Carol) Orbino; sister, Jean (Jack) Barnes, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, friends and the Syracuse football family to cherish her memory. A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 24, 2017 at 9:30am at St. Cecilia’s Church; 1001 Woods Rd, Syracuse. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 5pm at the Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave. Burial will be in Onondaga County Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Animal Welfare Institute at Awionline.org; and St. Cecilia’s Church.
