Obituary of Martha L. Byrne

Martha L. Byrne (Burns), 57, passed away Thursday, September 6 at Crouse Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Martha was the fifth of eight children born to Harry and Eleanor Burns of Syracuse, NY. She was a proud Fowler Falcon, class of 1979. Martha joined the Syracuse Police Department in 1986, where she served until her retirement in 2007. Martha was fiercely devoted to her family and friends. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend and most importantly, grandmother. Her greatest joy was welcoming her beautiful granddaughter to her family.

Martha is survived by her husband of 24 years, William Byrne; daughter, MacKenzie Rose; son, Ryan (Danielle) Paige; granddaughter, Charlotte Rose; parents; seven siblings, Terry (Mike) Chajka, Anne Burns, Mary Ellen (John) Gossin, Lillian (John) Costello, Harry, Patrick (Terri) and Michael (Kelly), several loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, a host of dear friends and, of course, Bruce.

Martha will be remembered for her loyalty, her humor and her bigger than life personality. The family would like to thank the staff of Crouse Neuro ICU for their compassionate care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at 10am at St. Patrick’s Church, 216 N. Lowell Ave, Syracuse, NY. Calling hours will be held Monday, September 10, 2018 from 4-7pm at St. Patrick’s Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dewitt.
