Anita (Black) Murphy, 69 of Syracuse, passed away peacefully October 5, 2019 at Francis House.

Anita was born and raised in Syracuse and was a proud graduate of Onondaga Central High School, where she organized her class reunions and was active with the scholarship fund. She attended Powelson Business School before a 22-year career at Upstate Medical Center in Public Relations, where she helped start the Children’s Miracle Network. She then worked as the Scholarship Coordinator for 17 years at OCC. She was an active Communicant of St. Michael’s Church, which included teaching religious education from 1985-2018.

She is predeceased by her parents William & Sarah Black; a brother, William Black and a sister, Sally Farr.

She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Barry Murphy; daughter, Colleen Murphy (Benjamin Owens); son, Ryan Murphy (Jennifer Holzhauer), granddaughter Aneira Owens; sister Jeanne Vuillemot, as well as 91 nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday October 9, 2019 from 4-7 PM at St. Michael’s Church, 4782 W Seneca Turnpike, Syracuse, NY 13215. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday October 10, 2019 at 10 AM, also at St. Michael’s Church. Burial will be in Onondaga Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave. Syracuse, NY 13208.
