Obituary of Alda Giarrusso Rainone

On December 25, 2020 Alda passed away peacefully at St. Camillus Nursing Home.  She was born on October 22, 1924 to Vincent and Anita Giarrusso of Syracuse, New York.  She graduated from Central Tech High School and Bryant and Stratton Business School.  During World War II she worked in a factory making ammunition for our soldiers.  She then went onto work in the family business Rainone’s Fine Meats and Grocery.  Next, she worked for Bannon Lumber, the other family business owned by her brother, Attilio Giarrusso.  She went back to school to become a hairdresser, and finally ended her long working career with SCSD.  She worked until she was seventy years old.  She belonged to the St. James Altar and Rosary Society and did volunteer work for the church.  She was known as an incredible cook and baker.  Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she would often tell everyone to come over for “Coffee and …”.  Her greatest love was her husband, Joe and her grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph P. Rainone, Jr. and her granddaughter, Morgan Rainone.  She is survived by her children, Maria Lewis of Arizona, Rita Rainone (Shawn Ryan), Patrice (Michael) Fagan, and Joseph P. Rainone III (Kathy); her grandchildren, Jonathon and Brian Lewis of Arizona, Andrew Castle, Paige, Christopher, and Michael Fagan, Mackenize, Brenna, and Joseph P. Rainone IV, her great granddaughter, Madison Lewis of Arizona, and her sisters in law, Sister Maureen Rainone of Latham, New York, and Lucy Rainone of Philadelphia, PA. Also, she is survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.

Services will be private.  She will be buried in Onondaga County’s Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
