Obituary of Mary T (McLean) Fogarty

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mary T. (McLean) Fogarty passed away at home surrounded by love, light and her children on February 2, 2021. She was born February 22, 1926, in Co Mayo, Ireland, the eldest of 8 brothers and sisters.  She came to the United States in 1949 and settled in Syracuse with her Aunt.  She met and married James P. Fogarty (deceased) and raised 3 children.  While she loved her homeland and returned many times to visit, she loved America and everything it offered. Opportunity was a gift, Education was a must and Service to those less fortunate was necessary.  She was a "Kennedy" Democrat and believed in marching for those issues she believed in, Ireland's Independence and the Right for all Life to flourish, bringing her children along to witness. After her husband passed in 1983, she began the second chapter of her life.  She completed a business program and worked for another 20 plus years at Salvation Army and the County's Family Planning Services, retiring at 82. She enjoyed the last decade meeting with friends/family, doing crosswords, listening to Irish music, enjoying her pets and praying.  She left this world reciting her Rosary.

She was a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians for over 70 years and a dedicated Catholic.

We want to thank Dr. Eric Daly, Dr. James Longo, Dr. Eric Fung, Dr. Gary Greenberg and Dr. Olga Kligerman and their staff for making her last years comfortable.  Thank you to Fr. Fred Mannara for always reaching out to her.

She is survived by her son, Brian (Linda), daughters, Maureen (Ralph Napolitano) and Colleen, her beloved grandchildren Amanda and Justin (Brianna), sisters-in-law, Wilma and Rita Fogarty, Maura McLean and nieces and nephews in America and Ireland, who will miss their Aunt Mary too.

A mass to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, February 27 at 10am at Most Holy Rosary Church at 111 Roberts Ave. in Syracuse.  Burial will be private.

If inclined, donations may be made to Birthright at 346 N. Midler Ave. Syracuse NY 13206 or flowers from St. Agnes Florist: https://www.stagnesfloral.com/ or (315) 475-7275

"May we think of her as living, In hearts of those she touched, For nothing loved is ever lost, And she was loved so much."
