I met Mr. Allen when I was about 9 years old. He took me under his wing. He told me I reminded him of a funny kid in the movie, Goonies.
He took me to Chiefs games and we'd order "two of everything" from the concession stand. (I was introduced to Pepto Bismol after one those games.) He told me to drink my soda before the ice melted, because they made the ice cubes from Onondaga Lake.
He and Mrs. Allen were very sweet to me and would sometimes take me for the weekend. They'd cook delicious meals and we'd watch movies. I loved hanging out at the auction house. Those weekends were some of my favorite memories as a kid.
I send my deepest condolences to Mrs. Allen and the entire family.

Besides my Dad, Coach Allen was the biggest influences of my life. Besides all baseball memories and the “work” concerning the auction house, he had great empathy. I was really down once after a high school baseball game and he told he was driving me home. He talked to me about the evening snd why I was down. Then we got a pizza. It made a huge difference in my ability to deal with injustice. Great man and I will miss him. God bless Mrs. Allen and the whole family. Just Coz ( Jeff Costello)

Dick Allen has been missed and will continue to be missed in the Greater Syracuse area. I new him as I was a constant customer of his and he taught me a lot about the auction business. I learned from him and was able to create my own business from his example of dealing with the public. I always wondered how many items are at the bottom of the stairs on Williams st. !!!
He will always be revered as a Great person and "Lulu" also. God Bless and be at Peace.

Hearing of Mr.Allen’s passing shook out some good old memories. If I go back 50+years I can remember Joey V and myself working for the auction business. I’m pretty sure it was our first jobs,we were young kids with money in our pockets thanks to Dick.
Dick would always send me home with something for my mom. I can remember big breakfasts every morning in the summer at the Allen house. Also to this day I have a fondness and a little understanding for antiques.
I was the lucky one to have been welcomed into that wonderful family so long ago.My heartfelt condolences to the Allen family. Dick was truly one of the good guys.
Sincerely
Joe Spossey

Allen Family
Working alongside Dick and his family at the Syracuse Police Abandoned Vehicle Auctions as an SPD Officer was something I really enjoyed. Dick was such a gentlemen and treated all the Officers with respect. His generosity that he and his wife displayed at their restaurant was above and beyond. He treated you like a family member. A true first class guy that will sorely be missed. Dick may you rest in peace my friend. The memories will live on forever.

My condolences to Mrs Allen, Terri, Carl, Kelly & Richie. Mr. Allen was one of the great Tipp Hill men who treated everyone like a family member or friend. Both my brother Marty McClelland (way back in the 70s) and my son Andrew Salvagni (around 2001 & 2002) were able to work helping Mr Allen. He will be fondly remembered.

To Lou, Carl, Rich, Terry and Kelly,
I am so sad to read about the passing of Dick. He was such a great man that could always make you laugh.
He was not only a daily customer in our store but you could always hear him in the back room playing “a friendly” game
of cards with his friends. He was a very generous man that will be missed by so many people. Thinking of all of you and sending prayers during this very difficult time. Rest In Peace Dick!
