Obituary of Marian A. Buerman

Please share a memory of Marian to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Marian (Yager) Buerman, 93, passed away peacefully at home on April 30th.  Marian was predeceased by her husband, Leland, in 1962, her son, Cal in 2016, her daughter-in-law, Patty, her brother, Herb, and her sister, Lucille.

Marian is survived by her daughters, Beth (Andy) Jones, and Candy, her sons, Kevin, Byron, and Charlie, her daughter-in-law, Mary Ann (Cal), her sister Helen, affectionately known as Aunt Rose, 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 3 great, great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and her dog, Rocco, who put a smile on her face every day.

Marian grew up on a farm in Eden, NY where she developed the strong work ethic that she instilled in her children. She moved to Syracuse in 1952 when she married her husband.  Marian worked as a cook at the Syracuse Day Nursery School and at Catholic Charities for Meals on Wheels.  Her favorite job was at the Brooklyn Pickle West, where she worked for 19 years and was well known for her generous sandwiches.

In addition to raising her six children and working full time, Marian actively volunteered, serving in leadership positions for the Seymour School Mother’s Club and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where she served on the Church Council, the Altar Guild, and taught Sunday School.  Marian made delicious pies and cookies.  She loved animals, flowers, and gardening.  She definitely had a green thumb.  Marian was also known for her creativity, making hundreds of pairs of handmade, knitted slippers and beautiful afghans.  She warmly welcomed her kids’ friends and there was always room for extra chairs at the dinner table.  Marian loved being Grandma and delighted in spending time with all of her grandchildren and teaching them to bake and sew.  Her spirits were always lifted when she received pictures and videos of her great grandchildren and she loved when she was able to see them in person.  Marian was a woman of strong faith and was quick to help those in need.  Marian was deeply loved by her family and she will be greatly missed.
