The Mahar Family would like to thank everyone for the overwhelming show of support and love we have received to honor Ed's life. It has been uplifting and overwhelming. To the extended family members, good friends, old Hillbrook coworkers, fellow umpires, LeMoyne Alumni and so many others we thank you all. We would like to especially thank all the young ladies that showed up even in uniform to give a final farewell to Coach Mahar. You made him proud. Now go out practice and play hard. Most importantly Ed would want you to teach others how to play the game he so lived and loved

As I read through these messages and the out pouring of love for Ed, if it was apparent before it is now, he truly was a pillar in our community that can never be replaced. I met Ed when I first started going to camps at Le Moyne, he inspired me to be the best I could and eventually I was lucky enough to play for him at Le Moyne. After college I coached summer ball and would often see Ed, he was always so happy and inspirational. Time spent with Ed was always memorable. I eventually moved out of the area and unfortunately we lost touch, but the memories we made will stay with me forever. RIP Coach

My deepest sympathy to the Mahar family, Ed was a wonderful friend and mentor to many in the softball community. I was fortunate to watch many Le Moyne softball games when the team was on Long Island. Even though our visits were short we always had alot of laughs. Ed, rest in peace my friend.

We are saddened to hear about the passing of Ed. He worked with our daughter Tori Poplaski for years. He helped with improving her pitching game, helped finding her teams to play on. Ed also told Tori importance of life lessons. He will be missed by many.

Eddie was one of my earliest friends. I remember exploring the area above Charlotte St. thinking we were so far away. Sometimes we’d walk to the corner of Genesee and Fayette street, packing a lunch and thinking we were downtown. I will always remember Eddie as a great guy and dedicated man who loved his family and helped hundreds of kids over the years. I’ll remember him being a wonderful catcher at Lewis Park and for high school too. I lost touch with Ed after high school, but would see him occasionally, mostly at sporting events when my kids were playing.
To Mary, and all of Ed’s siblings, I’m so sorry. He truly made his mark in this world and made it a better place. Love to you all, Moe Redmond Donohue

Condolences to the Mahar family from the Courcy family of Tipp Hill. Eddie and the whole Ryan's Pharmacy family had many, many parties at Chuck & Mar's (Mrs. C) house, "ballin watermelons" and havin a great time. Although I was a young teenage girl at the time, I remember those parties and all the laughter. West End friendships last a lifetime in all our memories. Ed, go find Chuck (my Dad) and have a beer! RIP. Sue Courcy

To the Mahar Family,
Both my sister and I send our condolences. We were both softball players coached by Ed. He will be truly missed, remembered and honored. He was a great coach. He taught us not only the fundamentals, ability and rules of the game that we so love to play and still play to this day. He also taught us to be a better player and role model for the younger generation. Heaven will truly be blessed to have a great man, player, and coach added to their roster. Thoughts and prayers.

To Ed's family my deepest condolences. It was just 2 days ago we had a conversation while you were walking your dog at 10pm. We spoke about softball and the upcoming summer League. You couldn't wait to see the kids and your fellow umpires. You helped me to figure out some details so we could provide service to the kids. That's where your heart is and always has been. Your love for the game is only surpassed by your love of helping a young lady be the best she could possibly be.
I will miss talking and umpiring games with you.
I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with you and help you on many games.
We will all miss your presence on and off the field. Rest in peace Ed.

To the Mahar family,
With deepest sorrow we send our regards to your family. Ed has been a great friend for the past 10 years. He started giving my daughter pitching lessons in sixth grade all the way into high school. His graduation pictures of my oldest daughter hold a special place in our living room. For the past five years Ed has been the softball umpire that I have worked with the most. Starting with Salt City and working indoor games at Pine Grove, then moving into the Tri County High School Association for school ball. With more than 500 games officiated in the past five years, (Ed and I discussed this just a few weeks ago) his dedication and love of the game of softball is unsurpassed by anyone in the central New York area. He was always willing to go above and beyond the call of duty much at the expense of his own free time. I am sorry to see him go too early.
With great sadness for your loss and joy for his friendship. Memories eternal.
