Obituary of William Jackson

Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

William Edward Jackson of Syracuse, NY passed away June 7, 2021 at Francis House, surrounded by his family and friends. Billy was born in November 1946 and was a graduate of St. John the Evangelist, where his lifelong love of basketball began.  The basketball stories are endless and the memories of the good old Parochial League will live on even after his death.

Billy retired after 29 years as a Supervisor at the Syracuse Water Department.  During the 1970’s and 1980’s, Billy helped launch many successful local businesses such as The Fast Break Deli, The Orange Grove, and Mrs. O’Leary’s Bar & Grill, as well as Eggies’ Place, The Infield Restaurant and Empire Room, located at the New York State Fairgrounds.

Billy married Mary Egloff on August 1, 1970, and they had two beautiful children, Jaclyn and Julie.  After Mary’s untimely passing in 1988 due to MS, Billy was an integral part in the creation and continued growth of Multiple Sclerosis Resources of CNY; a prominent resource for local families navigating the challenges associated with the disease.  He was also involved with the Arthritis Foundation, Crouse Health Foundation, Catholic Charities, Saint Lucy’s Church and Cystic Fibrosis.

Billy was known for his caring nature and quiet demeanor, always lending a hand, and helping a friend in need.

Billy was predeceased by his wife, Mary, parents, Walter and Mary, and nephew, Matthew Jackson. He is survived, by his daughters, Jaclyn (Jeffrey) Christenson, Julie Jackson (Rodney Murtaugh), and three granddaughters, Claire, Maggie, and Emma, siblings, Donald (Patricia), Nancy Bills, and James (Mary), many nieces and nephews and numerous close friends.
