
Obituary of Joan V. Headd
Joan V. Headd of Syracuse passed away peacefully on February 6th surrounded by her family and loved ones.
The daughter of Lawrence Vieau and Dorothy Vieau (née Chapman), she was born in Syracuse, New York on November 18, 1931. A lifetime resident of Syracuse, she attended Most Holy Rosary School and graduated from Lemoyne College in 1953 where she met her future husband of 25 years, Paul J. Headd. She worked as a homemaker raising a family of nine children until Paul's untimely death at the age of 49. After her husband’s passing, Joan attended Syracuse University where she obtained a Master of Education degree and later worked as an elementary school teacher in the Syracuse City School District until her retirement in the early 2000’s.
Joan was preceded by her husband Paul, her daughter Catherine, and her brother-in-law George Fink. She is survived by her sons Larry, Martin, Peter (Denise), Mark (Amy), and Michael (Tanya), her daughters Betsy, Mary Jo (William) Harmatuk, and Sara (Charles) Fontana, her grandchildren Katie (Owahn) Bazydlo, Jack Harmatuk, Sarah (Willie) Walker, Cristopher Certa, Clare Fontana, John-Paul Headd, Matthew Headd, Catherine Headd, Eleanor Headd, and Paul Headd, six great grandchildren, her sister Joyce (George) Fink, and twelve nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will take place on Thursday, February 13th beginning at 9:30 AM, with a burial mass to follow at 11:00 AM at Most Holy Rosary Church, 111 Roberts Ave, Syracuse, NY. A private burial will take place following the service.
Joan was a supporter of local charities that assisted those in need throughout her life. In lieu of flowers, tax deductible donations can be made to Emmaus Ministry of Syracuse.
