
Obituary of Stanley C. Hodell
Stanley C. Hodell, 88, of Syracuse passed away peacefully March 2, 2025 surrounded by family.
Stan was born June 8, 1936 in Syracuse, NY to the Late Stanley and Margaret Hodell. Upon graduation from Valley High he attended LeMoyne for two years before entering the Syracuse Police Academy. He retired a homicide detective after 31 years of service. Stan took pride in fostering over 45 children over the course of his life. He was the President for Valley Babe Ruth league for many years, coached teams for the South Side American Little League, a member of the Valley Men’s Club, an avid SU, Browns and Cardinals fan, he also enjoyed camping on the St. Lawrence River and vacationing in Atlantic City.. He was a devout Catholic and communicant of the Church of The Most Holy Rosary.
Stan was predeceased by his wife of 50 plus years, Virginia Hodell, parents, Stanley and Margaret, son, Perry and granddaughter, Ashley.
He is survived by his children, Yolanda (Victor) Santiago, Stanley Jr. (Karen), Julie Hodell, Mary Hodell, Kevin (Autumn), Stephen (Michelle), Charles, Vicki (Emby) Nathaniel, Christopher (Charlene), brother, Michael (Colleen), 18 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews, and his furry friend Max.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday March 10, 2025 at 10am at Most Holy Rosary Church, 111 Roberts Ave. The family will receive friends and relatives Sunday March 9, 2025 from 2-5pm at the Edward J. Ryan & Son Funeral Home, Syracuse. Burial will be in Valley Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Special Olympics Central New York Region.
