Douglas H. Lyon, 91 (“Doug”) of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 6 at Crouse Hospital.

Born in New York City, he was a 1951 graduate of the South Kent School in Connecticut and a cum laude graduate of the School of Architecture at Syracuse University on 1961. He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He was a practicing architect and a founding partner of Finnegan, Lyon and Colburn, PC and also worked for Quinlivan, Pierek & Krause, PC and O’Brien & Gere. He served the architectural profession as a member of the American Institute of Architects, Construction Specifications Institute and the Construction Panel of the American Arbitration Association. Doug was also active in the Syracuse community, twice elected to the Syracuse City Board of Education, serving as Board president in 1973-1975 and serving on the boards of the First Presbyterian Church, Oakwood Cemetery, Consolidated Industries and the Elmcrest Children’s Center.  Doug loved music and was an avid supporter of the local music community. He was a formidable bridge player and a Gold Life Master of the American Contract Bridge League. He was a past member of the Century and University Clubs of Syracuse. Doug was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marilyn Roney Lyon, in 1989; parents, Douglas McClure and Anita Stone Lyon; and sister, Charlotte Burbank.

Surviving are his son, Robert (Gabrielle Davidson) of Milwaukee, his daughter Stacey (Maureen Condon) of Syracuse, three cherished grandchildren, Madeleine, Mason, and Maxwell Lyon; and his beloved companion, Carolyn Bernstein.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Contributions in Doug’s memory may be made to WCNY or the Syracuse Orchestra.
