
Obituary of Rosemary Gorman
Rosemary S. Gorman, of Syracuse, NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at the age of 101. Born in Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of the late Timothy and Winifred (Mulligan) Stapleton. Rosemary was a graduate of Most Holy Rosary School in 1940, Powelson Business Institute, and worked at Crouse-Hinds as a secretary. For many years she was an active member of the Strathmore Book Club and served as its President. She was a stay-at-home-mother and enjoyed her family, faith and friends.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 54 years, Edward J. Gorman, the former Director of Admissions at Le Moyne College.
Also predeceased by her brothers, T. Raymond, Bernard (Bud), John Stapleton and her sister, Colleen Murphy.
Rosemary is survived by her six children. Timothy (Gail) Gorman, Dennis (Polly) Gorman of Fayetteville, NY, Colleen (James) Maxwell, Terrence (Mary Ellen) Gorman of Oswego, NY, Mavourneen (Martin) Mc Auliffe, and Kathleen (James) Sullivan of Hollywood, FL.
She is also survived by twenty-three grandchildren, Katie (Joe) Sojewicz, Emily (Heidi) Hart-Gorman, Edward (Wallis) Gorman, Mary Gorman, Claire (Chris) Angier, Andrew Gorman, Joseph (Matt) Gorman, Peter Gorman, Teresa Gorman, David Gorman, Ryan Gorman, Danny (Jess) Gorman, Christopher Gorman, Patrick (Tara) Maxwell, James (Chelsea) Maxwell, Emma (George) Studlack, John (Lindsay) Gorman, Brien Gorman, Caitlin Mc Auliffe, Robert (Jason) Mc Auliffe, Michael Mc Auliffe, Thomas Sullivan and Katherine Sullivan. Additionally, she is survived by sixteen great-grandchildren, Joey, Hannah, Ryan, Sammy, John, Annie, Ike, Max, Edie, Lucy, Nora, Grace, Charlotte, Madeline, Sheela, and Lyla.
She is also survived by her brother, Donald (Butch) Stapleton.
Calling hours will take place on Thursday, March 20th from 4-7PM at Edward J. Ryan & Son Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Friday, March 21st at 11:00 am at Most Holy Rosary Church, 111 Roberts Avenue, Syracuse, NY. Rosemary will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dewitt, NY.
