Obituary of Martha (Bockey) Hubert
Martha (Bockey) Hubert, age 85, passed away peacefully with her loving husband at her side on April 14, 2025. The daughter of the late John J. Bockey and Grace Taylor Bockey was born August 7, 1939 in Syracuse, NY. Martha was a lifelong resident of Syracuse, attending Most Holy Rosary School and graduating from LeMoyne College in 1961. She went on to teach second grade, before starting her family. Martha continued her passion for teaching by volunteering many years as a religious education teacher at Holy Family Parish where she passed on her exuberance for the Catholic faith preparing hundreds of children for their First Holy Communion. As her children grew older she returned to working full-time as a highly successful realtor for Eagan Real Estate, Longley Jones and Hunt Real Estate.
Martha’s beauty and creative mind were boundless. Her sense of style, quick wit and grace filled any room she entered. Her dining table was open to all to sit for a conversation, styled with her flowers and gourmet food that she lovingly prepared. Daily family dinners were feasts. Shopping trips were excursions. Holidays were elegant and unforgettable. Her home which she designed was Martha’s haven filled with comfort and ever adapting with her style and timeless vision.
Martha was married for 62 years to the love of her life, Herbert W. Hubert. Together they built a life of unyielding love and fearless loyalty. They spent their years raising their four children prioritizing their education and well-being above all. They enjoyed family vacations in Stone Harbor, NJ and on Cape Cod, surrounded by their grandchildren. They approached life hand in hand, traveling whenever life gave them an opportunity, enjoying golf and spending time with their cherished group of close friends. They remained active in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception where Martha was a lector. Their marriage was a testament to their children and an example to all who had the fortune of knowing them.
Martha was the adoring mother of four children, H.J. Hubert, John Hubert (wife Teri), Mary Beth Grant and Amy Hubert Masferrer. She was the unwavering voice of support as she encouraged them to set their own course with the safety of knowing they were loved and cherished. She was their safe place. She was the champion of their hopes and dreams. She inspired excellence and comforted defeats. Her love was and is everlasting.
In addition to her husband and four children, Martha is predeceased by her sister Joan (Bockey) Muth and brother John Bockey, and survived by her loving sister, Elizabeth (Bockey) Lawyer, sister-in -law Madeline (Hubert) Hall and several beloved nieces and nephews; her Thirteen Grandchildren Gracie, Molly, Maddy, Annie, Josh, Jack, Jason, Ryan, Luke, Alex, William, Abby and Thomas; and Three Great Grandchildren Maisie, Lila and Milo. She took great joy in discovering them. They were her delight and remain Martha’s greatest legacy.
A mass of celebration will be held at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 295 E. Onondaga St. Syracuse, NY at 10:00 am on Thursday, April 24th. Visitation will precede the mass beginning at 9:00 a.m. A burial will immediately follow the mass at St. Francis Cemetery 4339 New Seneca Turnpike Marcellus, NY.
