Patricia Hoag Roth Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce that our beloved mother and family matriarch, Patricia Hoag Roth (Patty), passed away on May 19, 2025 at the age of 99 at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.   Patty was born September 26, 1925 in Syracuse, NY to Clare Veronica (Collins) and Clarence Tobias Hoag. She attended St. Anthony’s grammar school and graduated from Nottingham High School in 1943. Patty attended Syracuse University, earning a BA in Liberal Arts in an accelerated curriculum program.

Patty met her husband, G. Stuart Roth, while at Syracuse University, they married on September 14, 1946. She accompanied Stu to his military WWII post in Panama Canal Zone, Ft. Clayton.  Following his service, they returned home and she taught home economics at Chittenango High School.

Patty and Stu resided on Winkworth Parkway where they raised their two sons, Michael and Daniel.  They attended Most Holy Rosary Church and were founding members of St. Ann’s Church on Onondaga Blvd.   At Bellevue Country Club, Patty loved to play golf and participated in the women’s league; having won many member-guest tournaments. She was an accomplished pianist, artist and bridge player.

In 1980, Patty and Stu retired and moved to Punta Gorda, FL.  There they were members of the Isles Yacht Club and made many lasting friendships.  Widowed in 2004, Patty moved back to Syracuse, NY and built her home in Bellevue Estates on Bunker Hill Way.  Patty lived independently with the love and support of her grandson, Jeffrey, and his family until March of 2024 when she moved into Evergreen Retirement Community in Oshkosh, WI.  There she made many new friends, joined a daily rosary group, challenged her friends in weekly bridge games, and enjoyed time spent with nearby family.

Patty was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. G. Stuart Roth.  She is survived by her sons Dr. Michael Roth (Linda) and Dr. Daniel Roth (Dr. Kathleen); Michael’s sons Dr. Jeffrey Roth (Keri, great-granddaughters Charlotte and Helaina Roth) and Lt. Col. (retired) Jason Roth (Gina, great-grandsons Lucas and Michael); Daniel’s children Sara Isom (Jeffrey, great-grandchildren Joseph, Kathleen, Ho-su, Younhee and Henry Isom) and Andrew Roth (Julie).  She is further survived by nieces Mary Harter, Ann Perkins and Suzanne Hughson.
