Obituary of Elizabeth Jane Rickert
Elizabeth Jane Rickert, 97, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on Friday, June 27, 2025 at home. Jane was born in Syracuse to Thomas and Ellen Caveny, and resided there all her life. She was a graduate of Solvay High School and Powelson Business School. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, neighbor and friend. She was known for her baking, specifically her apple pies and coffeecakes, and hosting her family over the years. She loved traveling to Sandy Pond on family camping trips, spending time with her grandchildren in Syracuse as well as traveling to New Jersey, Florida, and Texas to see her out of town grandchildren. She worked in the office of Dr. Hamel and Bernstein, and in Dr. Koeppel’s office. She was a devout Catholic and was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Parish Altar & Rosary Society as well as the CBA Mother’s Club.
Jane was preceded in death by her loving husband George A. Rickert Sr, her siblings Patricia Rickert, Thomas Caveny Jr., David Caveny and Jack Caveny. Jane is survived by her children: Andy and Ellenye Rickert of Milltown, NJ, Larry and Joanne Rickert of N. Fort Myers, FL, Peter and Jeanne Rickert of Richardson, TX, and Mary Ellen and Kevin Sheridan of Onondaga Hill; nine grandchildren: Jeffrey (Samantha) Rickert, Patrick (Meaghan) Rickert, Mariel (Darby) McCormick, Juliette (Johnny) Price, Theresa (Andy) Sanders, Bradley (Jessica) Rickert, Elizabeth (Patrick) Dixon, Timothy Sheridan, and Brian Sheridan; and seven great-grandchildren: Emma Rickert, Maverick, Sabal, and Cannon Rickert, Josephine and Jordana Price, Murphy Sanders, and two more on the way. She was loved by extended family, nieces and nephews, and in-laws.
The family would like to thank the staff and aides at Brookdale Summerfield for their wonderful care and compassion throughout the 7 years she spent there.
A celebration of Jane’s life will be held on Friday July 18, 2025 at St. Charles Borromeo Church with calling hours from 9-10 followed by a mass @ 10:00.
Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt, following the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to St. Charles of Borromeo Church in her name.
