Barbara Stapleton, lovingly known as “Mimi,” passed away surrounded by those who loved her most. She was born to Jack and Betty Abbott and lived a life filled with compassion, dedication, and quiet strength.
For over two decades, Barb helped shape young minds at the Methodist Church Preschool, where her patience, warmth, and gentle guidance left a lasting impact on generations of children. In the evenings, she continued to give of herself, caring for the elderly with great kindness and respect.
In her younger years, Barb had a passion for horseback riding and a deep connection to nature. She especially loved camping—spending time outdoors with her family, surrounded by the peace and beauty she cherished most.
Barb had a heart for animals, big and small, and they were drawn to her gentle spirit.
She also believed deeply in living with integrity and kindness, often saying: “Live life in a way that if someone spoke badly of you, no one would believe it was true.” And that’s exactly how she lived—genuine, giving, and beloved by all who knew her.
She was survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Jim, children, Rebecca (Timothy) Chase, Daniel (Emily), and 7 grandchildren, Morgan, Clare, Adi, Adeline, Madison, Finella, and Callan, whom she adored and took great joy in their laughter, their milestones, and the memories they shared.
She will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever held in our hearts.
Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at 11am at St. Francis Xavier Church, Marcellus. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 from 3 to 6pm at the Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave. Syracuse, NY. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Marcellus.
In lieu of flowers her family hopes you will do any or all of the following in Barb’s honor: plant a garden, feed the birds, strike up a friendly conversation with a stranger, send someone an old fashioned letter using pen and paper, appreciate the little things, and love life and laugh.
