Kathleen P. Cassady, 69, of Syracuse, passed away on September 1, 2025 after a lengthy and arduous battle with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and end-stage renal disease.
Kate graduated from Most Holy Rosary High School, received a Bachelor’s degree in elementary and special education from Marywood College, and earned a Master’s degree in administration from SUNY Oswego. She was a teacher in the Syracuse City School District for her entire career. Although she taught many different grade levels and in multiple school buildings, she particularly loved teaching children to read and utilized a variety of reading programs to reach children struggling to learn with the then-current literacy curriculum. Kate was an avid supporter of the Girl Scouts, spending several summers as a camp counselor and also serving as a Junior troop leader. She played the guitar and sang beautifully; she was a member of the choir at Most Holy Rosary Church for many years.
Kate was predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Paula Cassady, and her brothers, Pat and Tim Cassady. She is survived by her sisters, Frankie (Terry) Feehan and Peg (Paul Burgay) Cassady, the children and grandchildren of her siblings, and a large and caring extended family.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 8 from 10:00 to 11:00 at Most Holy Rosary Church, followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dewitt.
