Jean A. Hughes, 74, of Syracuse, NY, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2025.

Born in Syracuse to the late William “Bud” Winchell and June Winchell, Jean spent the vast majority of her life in Central New York, with cherished years also spent in Las Vegas, NV.

A proud graduate of St. Lucy’s High School, Class of 1968, Jean carried her strong sense of faith, loyalty, and dedication to family and friends throughout her life.

Jean’s greatest joy was her family and friends. She loved her grandchildren deeply, and they were the true joy of her life.

She is survived by her son, Michael (Shanyn) Hughes and daughter, Beth O’Donnell (Patrick); her beloved grandchildren, Patrick (Bethany) Hughes, Collin Hughes, Morgan (John) Kearns, and Breacan O’Donnell (Beth and Patrick O’Donnell); and her cherished great-grandchildren, Sean and Finley Hughes (children of Patrick and Bethany). She is also survived by her brothers, Bill (Susan) Winchell, Stephen (Judy) Winchell; her sisters, Janice (Greg) Esposito and Suzanne (Tom) Thompson; the father of her children, Walter Hughes; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Jean was predeceased by her sisters, Sharon Winchell, Patricia Thompson, infant sister, Janet and brother, Gary Cronk.

Michael and Beth would like to extend a special thank you to Linda McHugh for her unwavering support and care. The family also expresses their deepest appreciation to the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse for their compassion, kindness, and extraordinary care during Jean’s final days.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, September 24th, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. at Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave, Syracuse, NY. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025 at 10am at St. Lucy's Catholic Church, 425 Gifford St., Syracuse. Burial will follow in Valley Cemetery.
