Gisela E. Long Obituary

Gisela E. Long (Hantke)

August 26, 1948 – November 19, 2025

Gisela E. Long, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2025 at the age of 77. Born on August 26, 1948, in Landshut, Germany, to Ernst and Erna (Specher) Hantke, Gisela came to the United States in 1957, where she built a beautiful life rooted in family and love.

She graduated from Central Tech High School in 1966, where she was an active member of the German Club and DECA Retailing Club. On May 14, 1971, Gisela married John “Red” Long, and together they shared a life together over five decades.

Gisela worked at Dey Brothers, Hotel Syracuse, and Syracuse University, where she made life long friends. Outside of work, she cherished spending time with her family and enjoyed visiting the casino for a little fun and excitement. Most recently she enjoyed wintering in Florida with her husband and sister and the friends she had there.

She is survived by her husband, John; her children, Eric (Deb) and Jason (Robin); and her adored grandchildren, Paige, Alexa, Abby, and Emily. She is also survived by her siblings Roswitha (Vita), Siegfried (Sig), and Paul. Gisela was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Angela.

Gisela’s life was a testament to love, resilience, and family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her. She was very fortunate to have a wonderful sister, Vita, and sister-in-law, Joan who lovingly and selflessly cared for her over the past several months.

Service will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Heart Association.
