Genevieve Monsour, 86, passed away November 22,2025. Gen was born in Syracuse on Nelson Street, which was known back then as “Incubator Alley” for the many babies that suddenly appeared. She graduated from St. Patrick’s High School Class of ‘57 where she was Salutatorian and made life-long friends. She married her husband Tom in 1961 and they had three boys. Gen was witty and funny. She enjoyed talking to saints and sinners equally and was often the life of a party, never hogging the spotlight but also never turning out the lights! She was a masterful cook and delightful hostess. Gen liked a glass of wine and enjoyed for many years vacationing in Cape May, NJ with her childhood friends from St. Pat’s. She relished her role as grandmother and aunt.
Gen leaves behind many people who love her and will miss her including Thomas A. Monsour, her husband of 64 years; sons, Tom & wife, Cheryl of La Fayette, Tim & wife, Heidi & grandsons, Noah and Quinn of Fayetteville, and Chris & grandson, Jack and granddaughter, Hazel of Walworth, NY; also her brother, Tim Griesel and wife, Reenie; brother in law, Ron Monsour and wife, Mary Jane; sister in law, Linda McCarthy and husband, Tom; many nieces and nephews, and special friend, Ann Longo, with whom she shared many adventures.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 26 at 11am at St. Charles Church; 501 So. Orchard Rd. Calling hours will be held prior from 9am to 11am at church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt, NY.
In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave, Syracuse, NY 13208
