Gail M. Ahern Obituary
Gail M. Ahern passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026, with her children around her. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas M. Ahern. She survived by sons, Kevin Ahern, Sean (Mary) Ahern, Daniel Ahern and daughters, Kathleen (Michael) Krohl and Erin (Dana) Garbutt, grandchildren, Brian, Joseph, Thomas, Patrick, Evan, Conor, Robert, Alaina, Michael, Kyle, and Aiden, as well as eight great-grandchildren, sister, Lynn Vanderveen, brother, John Rittell and many nieces and nephews.
Gail was a graduate of Central High School. She retired from National Grid after a long career as a legal secretary and she returned to college for her paralegal degree. She was awarded the National Association of Legal Assistants Certificate. She served as editor of the Bar Reporter, the legal newspaper of the Onondaga County Bar Association.
As a lifelong communicant of Most Holy Rosary Church, she participated in the establishment of the Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel. She was a member of the Secular Franciscans Order, Sacred Heart Enthronement Center, and the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians. After retiring she enjoyed reading, spending time with family, and traveling throughout the US, Europe and the Holy Land.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Joseph’s hospital and PACE CNY for loving and professional care.
Funeral services will be held at Most Holy Rosary Church on Monday, March 9, 2026 at 10 am. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2026 from 1pm to 3pm at the Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave.
