Obituary of William F. Judge

Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

William F. Judge, 81, of Syracuse, New York, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 23, 2024. He was born May 14, 1942, the tenth child of the late John P. and Lucy (Dalton) Judge. He grew up in the Tipperary Hill area of Syracuse and was proud of his Irish heritage and the green-on-top light. He graduated from St. Patrick’s High School and shortly after joined the Army, where he served in Okinawa. He married his wife, Susan (Bleskoski) Judge, on July 20, 1968, and they celebrated 55 years together in 2023.

William was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Jack (Jean), J. Robert (Jean), Edward (Carol) and sisters, Mary E. Zink, Barbara (Don) Gregory, Patricia Scicchitano, Joan Pontello, M. Connie (Tom) Irwin and Anne Scully (Jim) Sullivan. He is survived by his loving wife, Susan, daughter, Elizabeth Judge and granddaughter, Cecilia Judge, as well as one brother-in-law, Frank Scicchitano, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He graduated from the Culinary Institute of America and then Florida International University. He retired after a career in restaurant and retail (Durston’s) management and owned two newspaper distributorships. Never one to sit idle, he was always searching for his next possible job long after his retirement, including working for City of Syracuse Dept. of Parks & Recreation. William was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist/Holy Trinity Church and had been a member of Pastime Athletic Club for many years.

Known as “The Patriarch” to his family, William cherished spending time with family and visiting with friends. He always had an interesting story to share and his infectious personality spread to all those he met. Always one to start up a conversation he could still recall the details of so many of the people in his life. He lived a rich and fulfilling life, and his absence will be deeply felt by everyone. The influence he had on our family and community will resonate for generations to come. He enjoyed lunches with friends, following sports and watching his granddaughter grow up. As she has said “Papa was always loving and kind.”
