Joseph Vincent Barry, 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 14, 2017. Joe was born on March 29, 1933 in Syracuse, NY. He was a proud undergraduate of the University of Notre Dame, where his idol and uncle, Father Joseph Barry was the rector. Joe joined and became a Veteran of the United States Navy. He then earned his masters at the Maxwell School at Syracuse University. Joe was actively involved in the American Legion where he lobbied for veterans benefits and rights in our nation's capital. He was a dedicated public servant and held various positions in public administration in the State of New York, Onondaga and Oswego Counties. Joe was a lifelong communicant of St. Lucy's Church. Joseph is predeceased by his parents, Vincent and Irene, his siblings; John "Jack" Barry, Ellen (Ambrose dec.) Murray and Ann Barry. Joe was survived by his wife, Judith, daughter, Beth (Kenneth) Bentz, sons; Joseph (Song-hui) of CO, Patrick (Carol), and Nicholas (Celeste) of HI, 9 grandchildren, brother, Michael (Martha) of FL, sister-in-law, Marinella Barry and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at St. Lucy's Church, 432 Gifford St., Syracuse. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 7pm at the Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave. Burial will be in Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Howlett Hill.
