Monica A. Lawton Obituary
Monica A. Lawton, 91 of Syracuse died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015. Monica was born in Syracuse and was a lifelong communicant of Most Holy Rosary Church. She was a graduate of The College of St. Rose and received a NYS scholarship to attend Teachers College Columbia University where she earned her master's degree in nursing. Monica had a long career as a professor of nursing at Syracuse University, specializing in pediatrics. She was a member of the Syracuse University and College of St. Rose alumni associations, the American Nurses Association and the League of Nursing.
She was predeceased by her parents Joseph J. Lawton Sr. and Monica Dwyer Lawton and her brother Hon. John F. Lawton. She is survived by her brother Joseph J. Lawton Jr., her sister-in-law Anne Lawton, and nieces and nephews: Joseph Lawton III, Jeff Lawton, Eileen Rogers, Daniel Lawton, Sara Recktenwald, Pat Lawton, Catherine Cosgrove, Margaret Fitzpatrick, John Lawton, Mary Beth Mastranni, Carol Gaspo, and Theresa Hawley. Monica is also survived by 25 great nieces and nephews, one great-grand niece, and her lifelong friend, Helen Parker.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 17th at noon at Most Holy Rosary Church, 111 Roberts Ave. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
