Obituary of Winifred Cornelia Corey

Winifred Cornelia Corey, 98, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2013. God waited over 98 years to bring Winifred Cornelia Corey home. "Winnie," as she preferred to be known, graduated from Central High School in Syracuse, NY and went on to Syracuse University. She spent her first 70 years living in a beautiful Victorian on Syracuse's west side, the first 19 years as the daughter of Frederick and Ava Corey and the next 51 years as the wife of Stanley J. Corey. Winnie and Stanley, who predeceased her in 1985, raised two daughters, Dolores Corey Prosser (Edward), who predeceased her in 2007, and Katherine Corey Yenny (Bruce), residents of Skaneateles, NY and Sarasota, FL. She is survived by four grandchildren, Sandra Cole (David) of Tampa Florida, Karen Bellows of Marcellus, NY, Robert Yenny (Christy) of Manlius, NY and Jennifer Attfield of Buffalo, NY and seven great grandchildren. Winnie's extraordinarily kind, ladylike spirit and humor were notable. Nicknamed "Smiley" by her friends, she made it her life's work to converse with others at every opportunity, always encouraging them to celebrate and share the joys and positives in their lives. The family will receive friends and relatives Monday, December 2, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m.at the Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in loving memory of Winifred Corey to Bellevue Heights United Methodist Church, 2112 S. Geddes St., Syracuse, NY 13207.
