Obituary of Anthony "Tony" O'Connor

Please share a memory of Anthony to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Anthony (Tony) O'Connor, 59, of Syracuse passed away Tuesday with his wife and children by his side. He graduated from Niagara University with a degree in education, but Tony would tell you he had more fun playing basketball for the Purple Eagles coached by Frank Layden. Tony worked for the US Postal Service, carrying the mail, which was perfect for someone who loved meeting people he could share his stories with. Following his retirement in 2003, he traveled with his wife before settling in Lake Placid. With his larger than life personality, he quickly became a "local." Whether you saw him at the mountain or on the golf course, he always had a smile and an offer to raise his glass with yours. He is survived by Mary, his wife and best friend for 41 years, his son, Christopher (Tabitha) of Rochester, NY, his daughter, Katryn (Tony) of Tacoma, WA, grandchildren, Riley, Jackson, and Marek, his mother, Rosemary of Vero Beach, FL, his brothers, PJ of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Matthew (Laurel) of Santa Barbara, CA, niece, Stevie, and nephew, Quinn, both of Santa Barbara, CA. Tony was predeceased by his father, Gerard J. O'Connor. Services will be Monday March 31, 2014 at 10:30am at St. Joseph's Church in Camillus. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be Sunday, March 30th from 2 to 5pm at the Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave. Syracuse, NY. Bheadh sé seo tá mé cuimhin leat cuimhneamh i dom.
