Mary Lu Pfohl passed away after a short illness on April 9, 2014. She was a life-long resident of Syracuse and proud graduate of Most Holy Rosary High School and Lemoyne College. At her core she was devoted to her catholic faith and beyond all else she enjoyed and doted on her family. She also cherished friends from Rosary, St. Ann's, Lemoyne, Skaneateles and Naples, Forida. Mary Lu is pre-deceased by her husband Edward J. Pfohl with whom she enjoyed 47 years of marriage. Together they raised 6 children in the early years of their marriage and established the family "camp" on Skaneateles Lake which remains the extended family's annual gathering place. Their children and grandchildren formed tight bonds during summers at the camp. In the later years of their marriage they enjoyed annual pilgrimages to Hawaii and eventually to a winter retreat in Naples Florida. Mary Lu is survived by her children and their spouses: Kathryn (Peter) Hixson of Cazenovia, NY, Christine (Charles) Taft of Fallbrook CA, Edward "Skip" (Aurelie) Pfohl of Syracuse, NY, Mary Ann "Mimi" (Kevin) Didio of Syracuse, NY, James (Monica) Pfohl of Niskayuna, NY and Leo (Deborah) Pfohl of Niskayuna, NY. Mary Lu is also survived by 15 grandchildren: Peter (Meaghan) Hixson, Kelley (Chuck) Hickey, Sam Hixson, Ashley Didio, Kevin Didio, Brittany Didio, Robert (Kristen) Taft, Julia Taft, Allison Pfohl, Shannon Pfohl, Blake Pfohl, Bailey Pfohl, Shane Pfohl, Kaitlyn Pfohl and Jonathan Pfohl. Calling hours will be Friday April 11th 4-7pm at the Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, Syracuse. A funeral mass in celebration of Mary Lu's life is scheduled for Saturday April 12th, 10am, at Most Holy Rosary Church, the church where she received the sacraments of first communion, confirmation, and matrimony. Donations may be made to Most Holy Rosary Church, 111 Roberts Ave., Syracuse, NY 13207. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery.
