Obituary of Eileen Elizabeth (Dorfer) Abbey

Eileen Elizabeth (Dorfer) Abbey, 78, of LaFayette went home to the Lord Monday, April 14, 2014. She was a communicate at St. Joseph's Parish. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years, John J. Abbey. She is survived by her children, Brian Douglass, Eileen (Ron) Haynes, Kathleen (Martin) Rathbun and John (Lisa) Abbey; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sisters, Peggy Pickard and Mary Jane Coyne; many other close relatives and friends; and her beloved pets, Mick and Mindy. Eileen retired from LaFayette School District and never retired from Ballet and Dance of Upstate N.Y. Inc. She was a strong independent woman who enjoyed life and was always two steps ahead of everyone. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend to many. She also enjoyed the pond, The Red Hats, the casino and traveling. Look out heaven here she comes! Services will be held on Wednesday, April 16th at 2pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 300 Valley Dr., Syracuse. Family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2pm at the church. Burial will be in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Eileen's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of CNY, 441 W. Kirkpatrick St., Syracuse, NY 13204.
