Obituary of Anna Meryl (Ough) Stearns

Anna Meryl (Ough) Stearns, 87, of Westvale, died August 29th after a lengthy illness. She graduated from Springfield (NY) Central Schools and attended Albany Business College. She worked at the Syracuse YMCA before the birth of her daughters, and later for WCNY and other CNY businesses. She was a communicant of St. Mark the Evangelist Episcopal Church, where she served on the vestry. She was a devoted SU basketball fan and accomplished needlewoman (sewing, knitting, crochet, tatting). Anna was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Alvah William Stearns. She is survived by her daughters, Kay Stearns (Craig) Bruening and Marilyn (John) Stafford; four grandsons: Michael and Christopher Stafford and Justin and Scott Bruening; nephew, Daniel Ough and niece, Cynthia Cunningham. Special thanks to Hospice of CNY and Melissa Luke for their loving care in her last weeks. The family will receive visitors at the Edward J. Ryan & Son Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 2, from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Anna's name to the Samaritan Center, 310 Montgomery St., Syracuse 13202; or Hospice of CNY, 990 7th North St., Liverpool 13088. Burial will be held at a later date in Springfield Center, NY.
