Dear Phyllis, Pat and all of the Didio Family,,
I am sorry for your loss.
Dave was one of the neighborhood " big boys" and Mr. Didio was Mr. Vito Didio who was the dad of your clan on Holley St. in Auburn. It was spelled Holly St. on the sign at the Seymour St. sign. Our family, the Whites, lived at 23 Holley St. Pat and I were class mates at Mt. Carmel High School.
You were in my thoughts and prayers especially on September 8th and will be as the year goes on.

Phyllis and Family: Coach impacted my life in many ways. I was his student and played football for him at Mount Carmel. He was also instrumental when I secured my first professional job as a teacher and coach at Bishop Ludden I am glad I was his student and played for him, and I was privileged to teach with him and be on his football staff. Please accept my condolences for you loss, my warm thoughts about the memories and my prayers for a man who lived a caring, compassionate, forgiving and loving life. God Bless.

Dear Didio Family:
I was saddened to read of Mr. Didio\'s passing, but not surprised at his accomplishments. He taught me Business Law and was instrumental in my choosing to be a Legal Secretary at a very young age (which I still am!) Along with Emil Rossi (for English Lit), Mr. Didio was one of my two my favorite teachers @ BLHS. Anne Thornton (Class of \'68) and I (Class of \'69) used to (playfully) fight over the privilege of being his secretary -- type his tests, work sheets or anything else clerical that he needed done. He was a doll and made everyone feel special. Just from reading the Guest Book, you should all be proud that he is so fondly remembered even after all these years and that his persona touched so many in a positive way. May he rest in peace.
Sincerely, Pamela J. Price

To the Didio Family:
I just wanted you to know that my prayers are with you all during this difficult time. I was very fortunate to have spent some quality time at 103 Canfield Drive. Coach Didio was my teacher, my coach and a mentor who embodied the importance of family. The last time I saw him was when I had travelled from Tuscaloosa, AL to Phenix City, AL to attend Kevin's game in the Division III National Championship game. Coach Didio made sure I had a hotel room and a ticket to the game. I deeply respected his devotion to his community, and appreciated how he taught me to be a better football player - and most of all, a better person.
May the love of Christ continue to provide you with comfort during this time, and may you all reflect on the awesome legacy that Coach Didio leaves behind.

Dear Family. So sorry to see the passing of Coach. He was without a doubt my favorite teacher, coach and mentor at Ludden. A quick example of how small acts of caring impact people lives in a positive way. During my senior year, two games before the basketball season was to start, I tore my ACL in a scrimmage. I missed the entire season. During spring sports he noticed I was still favoring the leg and he suggested I look into getting a brace, even told me where to go downtown to find it. That brace lasted me ten years and allowed me to enjoy recreational sports again. Small act but big impact for me. He cared enough to take the time to help me, that is how I always remember him.
We are all better for knowing him. God Bless you all.

To Phyllis, Greg, Sue and the rest of the Didio family: I was so sorry to hear of Dave’s passing this morning. And I have to admit, of all the deaths I’ve had to try to wrap my brain around recently, his really stopped me in my tracks and made me take a moment.
And I realize it’s because even though I never played a single game in any sport for the guy, to me he is, was and will always remain simply, "Coach."
And for the simple fact of how he conducted himself as a man and how he always lived his life, I realized too he taught me so many things that shaped the person I am today. But three continue to stand out and continue to ring true for me.
He taught me that loyalty is measured not by the colors on
your back, but by the content of your heart.
He taught me that in the only game that truly matters, the
game of life, winning and losing are not nearly as important as how hard you try.
And he taught me that of all the gifts a parent can give a
child, just sitting in the stands and watching him or her compete – regardless of the sport, regardless of the level of competition, regardless of the setting – is a simple act of love that will plant seeds that bear fruit long after the final out is made or the final whistle sounds.
I know you’ll miss Dave just as I, especially now, miss all of you. Just know that in these moments of pain and sorrow I’m thinking about you and your whole family and will keep the entire Didio clan in my thoughts and prayers.
