Amlita Grilli DeBarber of Syracuse, passed away on January 18, 2015 after a long illness. She was born in Canastota. Amlita had a zest for life and learning, and had an adventurous spirit. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, nonna, aunt and friend. Her greatest joy was spending time with her daughters, grandchildren and extended family. She had an infectious smile and a tremendous sense of humor which brought laughter to all who knew her. She was an avid reader and an incredible cook and baker. She enjoyed playing cards, board games, shopping, and cheering on her beloved Yankees and SU Orange. She is survived by her daughters Lisa DeBarber Simmons of Charlotte, NC and Daria DeBarber (Peter) Webber of Dewitt, her sister Johanna Grilli Parkinson of Dallas, TX, grandchildren Tyson, Christopher and Elisabeth, great grandchildren Carolina and Ava, and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by George R. DeBarber, Jr., her husband of 48 years, and by her sisters Adele, Jessie and Mary, and her son-in-law Brad Simmons. The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care, compassion and friendship that the doctors, P.A.s, nurses and staff on the 3-2 floor at St. Joseph's Hospital provided to Amlita and her family. Calling hours are Thursday, January 22nd, 2015 from 5pm to 7pm at the Edward J. Ryan & Son Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday January 23rd, 2015 at 10:30am at Our Lady of Lourdes, 300 Valley Drive in Syracuse. Burial will be private. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Stand Up To Cancer or the Rescue Mission of Syracuse.
