Obituary of Donald J. Costello

Donald J. Costello, 81, of Zephyr Hills, Florida, formerly of East Syracuse, NY passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side after a brief illness. Don grew up on the "nort" side, graduated from Assumption Catholic School and served in the US Army in Greenland. Don worked his entire career at Strathmore Paints where he was fondly referred to as "Bullet", retiring in 1995. Upon retirement from Strathmore, he worked at the American Legion in East Syracuse. Don was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, New York Giants and Syracuse University. He loved crossword puzzles, fishing and camping, maps and sardines. Don is predeceased by his sister, Ann Brigandi Haney. He is survived by his wife, Libbie of Zephyr Hills; and his daughters, Lisa Zales (Michael), Karen Kelley (Martin), Susan Czerwinski (Paul) and Connie Stinson (Edward); and his brother, Thomas (Alice), all of Syracuse. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Allison Zales, Michael Kelley, Colleen Kelley, Ray Czerwinski, Matt Czerwinski, Kristen Czerwinski, Andrew Welch, Daniel Stinson; his great-grandson, Liam Ray; and many nieces and nephews. Don's daughters are forever grateful to his wife Libbie's family for their love and care through the years and during his illness, especially Jack and Shirley, Julie and Kelly. A celebration of the life of Donald J. Costello, who passed away on March 5, 2015 in Zephyrhills, Florida will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at the American Legion, 135 W. Manlius Street, East Syracuse, NY from 6 to 8 pm. Please join the family for food, refreshments and stories as we lay to rest our husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
