Obituary of Thomas Austin Fitzpatrick Jr.

Thomas Austin ("Fitz") Fitzpatrick, 86, of Syracuse, NY passed away peacefully on January 10, 2016. Born on February 20, 1929, Fitz graduated from Christian Brothers Academy and LeMoyne College, Class of 1951, where he was editor-in-chief and photographer for the College's first yearbook. Fitz, an avid photographer and artist, began his career at WSYR-TV as a cameraman and later worked in advertising and public relations for several firms and independently, in Syracuse, NY and New Bern, NC. Fitz married his beloved wife, the late Ann Hennigan Fitzpatrick, in 1952 and they were married for 62 years. He was always very active with many organizations, including the Knights of Columbus, St. Charles Borromeo in Syracuse and St. Paul's in New Bern serving on a variety of committees. Fitz was the son of Thomas Austin and Mary Walsh Fitzpatrick of Syracuse, NY, and is survived by his seven children, Ellen, Thomas (Eileen), David (Elizabeth), Jody (William) Mastine, Gregory (Stephanie), Susan Boehlert (Dan), and Neil (Lisa), 16 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Fitz is also survived by his dear sisters, Linda Fitzpatrick Arnold and Ann Vaughn Fitzpatrick, of Houston, and his well-loved aunt, Jane Walsh of Syracuse and many caring nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be on Friday, January 15, 2015 from 4 to 7pm at the Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3108 Bellevue Ave. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2015 at 9:30 AM at the Most Holy Rosary Church, followed by burial in St. Mary's Cemetery in Dewitt. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Heritage at Loretto: 750 E. Brighton Ave., Syracuse, NY 13205.
