I am sadden to know that I will not be mailing a birthday card to Monsignor this week. He was such an important person to our family as he guided me through my journey of faith. He was our son, Mark's, first visitor in the hospital and held our hand when we said good-bye to him three years later. He had such a wonderful laugh and his eyes reflected his smile. He is greatly missed.

He loved God, he loved golf and he loved life. His laugh was infectious. His smile heartwarming. His voice calming. His wisdom divine. His words life giving. His heart generous. He was my friend, my confidant, my lighthouse. His love for golf connected us at first thus beginning a friendship that spanned decades. His presence in my life was more than special - he held a rare place in my heart reserved only for a few. I am grateful for our friendship; I will miss him tremendously.

To Father Daverns family I am truly sorry for your loss. I worked at Van Duyn at the time Father Davern was the Chaplin. He was such a kind and loving man. Always a kind word whenever you saw him to the patients and to the staff. I would ask him my " Jesus" questions and it would get to the point when he would see me he would always say Well, Alison any Jesus questions for me today. His kindness and sense of humor is what I will always remember. He will be truly missed by his family and by many many others whose lives he touched.-Alison Reber

Thank you 'Uncle Bob' from TommyMoore . I know I speak for all of your nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews when I say how very good you were to each and every one of us. You baptized us, married us, counseled us throughout our lives and in least one case provided guidance that allowed me to start and operate a business 43 years ago that continues today.. We all were so fortunate to have you in our lives . All of the accolades I have read in testimonial of your many achievements and good works left only one thing out... You never ever asked one thing for yourself. Memories of our camp on Otisco Lake, sinking Chris Crafts, hunting at Lourdes in the fall... Family sing alongs while my mother played the Piano, King Husseins Mercedes Benz all come to mind.. I only have one last request , now that your in heaven do you think you might put a word in for me... I'm going to need it... Forever, Tommy

What a gift from God he was to all who ever met him. When he helped out with Masses at St. Patrick's in the last few years he just glowed sitting in the Sanctuary telling stories. What a tribute to a true "Irish Catholic" to have his wake at St. Patrick's during St.Patrick's week and have his funeral the day before Palm Sunday. If that oily sn't a smile from God I don't know what is.

There will never be another "Father" Davern. Those of you who knew him know what I am talking about. People were naturally drawn to him and he showed genuine love and compassion. Handsome, smart, charming...these were a few of his human qualities, but it was his Spiritual presence that we will never forget - he seemed to glow. There are not enough pages to allow room to list all the wonderful things he did for me, my family, and, I am sure, thousands of others. God bless you "Father"....I have no doubt that I will see you again, this time forever. Love, Tony Macek & family

What a treasure Monsignor Davern was as a visiting priest in recent years at St. Patricks's Church on Tipperary Hill. He would always welcome the congregation before he said Mass and introduce himself as a "son of St. Patricks's" and school alum. Please accept ourhas our sympathy and prayers. Msgr. Davern will be sorely missed. His encouragement to the 'flock' by his sharing of God's mercy and grace - and esp. faithfulness in times of grief will live on. Sincerely, Marilyn and Don McNamara ☘
