John "The Mayor" Hurley Jr.
John R. Hurley, 68, of Syracuse, passed away unexpectedly, at his home on May 18, 2016. John was born in Syracuse on July 28, 1947, a son of the late John R. and Anna Mae Durham Hurley. He was a graduate of Rome Free Academy and CCBI in Syracuse. John was a member of the Most Holy Rosary Church, Syracuse and was an avid S.U. and Yankees fan. He enjoyed traveling to England, Ireland, Boston and New York City, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his nieces and nephews. John was employed by Burdick's Drivers Village before his retirement and was formerly employed by Lowery Brothers and Alan Buyers.
He is survived by four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Thomas and Janet Hurley, MO, Timothy Hurley, Bernhard's Bay, William and Debra Hurley, Westvale, Patrick and Michele Hurley, Syracuse; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Gretchen Sprock and Charles Sprock, Rome, Marguerite and Francis Sanzone, FL, Susan and Thomas Tokaryk, Sylvan Beach; a sister-in-law, Lois Hurley, MO; twenty-seven nieces and nephews and thirty-two great nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by a sister-in-law Kathleen Hurley.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at the Most Holy Rosary Church. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Sunday from 3-6 P.M. at the Edward J. Ryan & Son Funeral Home 3180 Bellevue Ave Syracuse. Interment will take place in St. Johns Cemetery, North Bay. Arrangements by Strong-Burns and Sprock Funeral Home, Rome.
