Annie E. "Betty" Spain, 95, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 23, 2017. She was born in the Borness, Co. Laois, Ireland. Betty came to the United States in 1957 with her family. She retired from Kemper Insurance as a Department Supervisor and lived in Syracuse, Newberry and Tampa, Florida through the years. Betty was beautiful, independent and smart. An Irish beauty like no other. She was a proud woman, a good Catholic who charmed everyone who met her. Her wit was unmatched. She was an avid reader, gardener, and talented seamstress who was noted for the beautiful Irish Knit sweaters she skillfully knit for lucky family and friends. Betty is predeceased by her husband, Michael, daughters; Serena and Maretta. She is survived by her sons; Roger (Margo) Elbridge, NY, Michael (Theresa ) Preble, NY, Christopher (Teresa) Syracuse, NY, grandchildren; Erin West (Gary Perkola), Tampa, Fl, David West, Newberry, Fl, Bridgette O'Connell ( Phillip), Lewisburg, OH, Courtney Spain, Elbridge, NY, Caitlin Spain, Portland, ME, Brendan Spain, Skaneateles, NY, Rory Spain (Danielle) Rome, NY, Michael Spain, Preble, NY, two great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins both in the United States and Ireland. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, April 28, 2017 at 10:30am at St. Brigid's St. Joseph Church; 320 Herkimer St, Syracuse, NY 13204. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The ALS Association Upstate New York Chapter: 135 Old Cove Road, Suite 213 - Liverpool, NY 13090.
