Obituary of Patrick J. "Patty-O" O'Neill

Patrick J. “Patty-O” O’Neill, 54, of Tipperary Hill in Syracuse, died October 20, 2017 after a short illness. Pat was the Vice President of the Tipp Hill Athletic Club, which to him was a great honor. He was also a member of the Strathmore Men’s Athletic Club. Pat worked at Plaza/ Rosewood/ The Cottages for 38 years. He also worked for and was a proud honorary brother of Theta Chi Fraternity at Syracuse University.
Pat was a shareholder and lifelong Green Bay Packer fan. He tolerated the New York Yankees because of family obligations. He was fisherman of the year, two years running at Kasoag Lake. Pat loved spending time with family and friends at the O’Neill camp on Lake Ontario. He loved to fish, golf, and drink beer at O’Deas.
Pat was predeceased by his father, Michael Stewart, and brother, Michael as well as the best dog in the world, Max.
Pat is survived by his beautiful bride of 30 years, Melissa (Courcy) and 4 amazing sons; Colin, Ryan, Matthew and Michael. Pat leaves behind his canine kids, Leo, Bud and Jax. He is also survived by his mother, Arlene, sisters, Barb (Dick) Gilman, Elizabeth (Norm) Smalt, Eileen (Pete) Kralick, Karen (Andy) Covell, Noreen (Peter) Schoonmaker and sister-in-law, Steph (Jim) Stack, mother-in-law, Mary Courcy, sisters and brothers - in - law, Cathy (Frank) Killian, Susan (Rich) DeMarzo and numerous beloved aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Pat was larger than life with a head to match. With a boisterous laugh and a beer in hand he leaves behind a multitude of incredible friends who will miss him terribly but will remember his love of life.
He was and always will be kind of a big deal.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at St. Patrick’s Church, 216 N. Lowell Ave. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7pm on Monday at the Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave. Burial will be private.
