My condolences to all of you. I met her only a couple of times, I think, but -- based on her wonderful children -- there can be no doubt that hers was a life well-lived.

I had the pleasure of meeting, observing and speaking with Win (Thornton) Gates at several Hancock Estabrook LLP social events which she attended with longtime Hancock litigation partner Jack Gates. She projected at those events the same positive personality and character attributes which her excellent obituary and other condolences relate. She was an exemplary member of my own parents' generation and will obviously be very missed by her loving family and friends despite the wonderfully long life which she lived so well. Best to all her family.

Dear Mrs. Claire Hayden, Mrs. Anne Streno, Mr. Greg Thornton, Mr. Barry Thornton, Mr. Dave Thornton, and Mr. Don Thornton,
I am writing to express my deepest condolences for the loss of your sister and mother, Win. As my step-grandmother, I knew her to be a joyful woman, and I know that she and my grandfather Jack shared a full life together. I hope that you find comfort in this moment of sorrow in the knowledge of the love and connections that filled her life.
Sincerely yours,
Emma Yorra

It is difficult to single out a person or a family to whom to write a message of sympathy. Winnie impacted so very many people, who were so lucky to have known her. She will continue to do so through her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, as they pass on of her many lessons and values. What a legacy of love and devotion. She was fortunate to also have each of you in her life; I'm sure she will watch over you from above. To a life well lived and loved . . .

Mark and I would like to offer condolences to the Thornton family on the death of Win. She had a long full life and what sounds like a peaceful death. My best memory of she and Dad is from Hannah’s wedding when they stood and sang a duet to her and Chris. They certainly did love singing together. Her steady temperament was always appreciated.

Win truly had an incredible journey. She was kind, caring, vivacious and loved to participate in the many activities she pursued. She will be greatly missed by all those she came in contact with over her 98 full years.
We're sure she and dad are singing their favorite big band tunes right now.

To all the Thornton Siblings,
I have nothing but fond memories of your Mom. What a wonder to read about all of her accomplishments - to me she was just a `Mom' and one of the nice ones. I send you all my sincere condolences at this great loss.
