Obituary of Monica Eileen Thompson
Monica Eileen “Lynn” Thompson, 93, of Syracuse, NY passed away peacefully on March 1, 2019, surrounded by her loving children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Monica was the daughter of Ursula Rodrigues Ferreira and Alfred McLean Thorne. Monica was a native of Georgetown, Guyana in South America. She emigrated to the United States in 1972, and resided in Syracuse, NY. She began her nursing career in 1946 in Guyana, where she worked as a Registered Nurse, specializing in midwifery and public health. In Syracuse, she continued her professional career at Community General Hospital in labor and delivery and in addition worked in Geriatric and Private Duty Nursing. Monica was a devout Catholic and a long-time communicant of Most Holy Rosary Church for 46 years.
Monica was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Alexander Thompson and darling daughter, Barbara Ann Thompson. Left to cherish her loving memory, are her children, John Andrew, Mary Cecilia, Michael (Helen), Monica Bivens, Felicity Hall, Catherine (Tomas) Sever, Agnes McCray, Perpetua (Robert) Grant, and Peter (Virginia), 32 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was a deeply affectionate person with a gentle soul and was loved by all who knew her.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 8, 2019 at 10am at Most Holy Rosary Church, 111 Roberts Ave., Syracuse. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 7th from 4 to 7pm at the Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave., Syracuse. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt.
