Obituary of Martha M. Lyon
Martha Phillips Lyon, 54, of Syracuse, passed away unexpectedly Friday, May 31, 2019 with her family beside her. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Sally (Cummiskey) Phillips and grew up the fifth of eight children in Westvale. She is a graduate of Westhill High School and Le Moyne College. She spent thirty years working in finance and accounting at Carrier and National Grid. Martha was a devoted wife, mother, and sister. Her greatest joy was watching her children participate in their various sporting events. She was an avid reader, photographer, and enjoyed creating beautiful nature videos.
She is survived by her husband Charles Lyon, daughters Claire and Leah Diefendorf, son Jonathan, and stepson Charles Jr. She is also survived by her sisters and brothers, Genevieve Phillips Ptak of Pompano Beach, FL, John Phillips of Alexandria, VA, Mimi (Ed) Fiorentino of Lake Bluff, IL, Patricia Phillips of Syracuse, NY, Eileen (Dan) Coates of Syracuse, NY, Daniel Phillips of New York, NY, and Brian Phillips of Union, NJ.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at 10 a.m. at St. Ann’s Church, 4471 Onondaga Blvd, Syracuse, NY with burial to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dewitt, NY. Calling hours for family friends will be at Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Avenue Syracuse, NY, on Tuesday, June 4th from 5-7 p.m.
