Obituary of Jerry McAvan
Jerry L. McAvan, 74, of Bridgeport, formerly of Camillus passed away peacefully on June 4, 2019 with his family by his side. Jerry was the owner of McAvan’s Pub and an operating engineer with Local 158. He was a member of the Army Reserves and a 1964 graduate of Vocational High School. Jerry was an avid sportsman, especially hunting and fishing. He loved camp, and created many fond family memories at their camps over the years. Jerry was a socialite and expert conversationalist, enjoying his time with friends on the West End. Good times followed him, along with his many jokes.
Jerry had a huge heart. He was a philanthropist, donating to many organizations and helping out friends and family. He cherished his grandkids and looked forward to their many sporting events, particularly football.
Jerry was predeceased by his wife, Claudia, and parents, John and Lena. He is survived by his children; Colleen (Robert) Klei, Brian, and Sean (Heather); 7 grandchildren; sibilings, Hubert McAvan of Florida, Patrick McAvan of Kirkville, and Michele Sawyer and Martin McAvan both of Syracuse, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at 10 am at St. Patrick’s Church, Tipperary Hill, Syracuse. Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 10, 2019 from 3 to 6pm at the Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave. Burial will be private.
