Obituary of George E. Cole, Jr.
George “Ike” Cole, Jr., 88, of Syracuse, NY passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2019. He was surrounded by family in his final hours, and left behind a legacy of unconditional love and joy among all who crossed his path, in life.
George served his country, family and community, with pride. He was a Korean War Veteran. He worked for Superior Electric Corporation, became a Master Electrician, and founded George E Cole Electrical Contractors, Inc. After raising their children, he and his wife enjoyed traveling through the United States, and abroad, with friends from their parish. He was a loyal servant to Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church, and Our Lady of Hope. In 2013, along with his wife, he was a recipient of the Bishop’s Immaculata Medallion, in recognition of their extraordinary service to their parish. During the course of his retirement, he enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, and gatherings around the family table.
He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years marriage, Margaret “Peg” Cole, just 7 months prior. George is survived by their 5 children and their families; Judith (Pete) Quinn, Christopher (Jennie), George (Karen), Margaret A., Joseph (Renee), as well as 7 wonderful adult grandchildren,1 great grandchild, and niece and nephew, Carol and David (Christine) DeMong.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 9th, from 3pm-6pm at the Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 10th, at 10:00am at Our Lady of Hope, 4545 S. Salina Street. Burial will be in the Onondaga Valley Cemetery.
