Janet S. McDermott, 91, of Syracuse, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2021.

Janet was born in Amsterdam, NY to the late Waldemar & Sara Schmidt. She attended St. Peter’s School of Nursing in Albany before moving to Syracuse with her husband, Jack and their 8 kids. Janet worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital and the Syracuse Developmental Center before retiring in 1995. She loved Most Holy Rosary, the St. Lawrence River, her children, and her grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her parents; her husband of 49 years, Jack, a daughter, Chris Crandall; sons-in-law, Gary Crandall and Gary Glath, and siblings, Mary Patricia Dwyer and Vincent Leo Schmidt.

Janet is survived by her children, Jack (Lisa), Betsy Glath, Susan (Ed) Hanley, Tim (Marilyn), Tom (Diane), Janet (Joe) Connor and Pete (Laura); sister, Caryl Hedderman; brother, David Schmidt, as well as 28 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 am at Most Holy Rosary Church. Entombment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dewitt.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Most Holy Rosary Church, 111 Roberts Ave, Syracuse, NY 13207.
