Obituary of Jane L. Ross

Jane Ross, Syracuse, left this life and ascended to her heavenly reward on June 7. She was born to Eugene and Eleanor Lawyer in Utica NY on August 29, 1925. A graduate of Utica Catholic Academy, she was employed at Rhoads General Military Hospital in Utica where she met a young Army Captain Robert Ross. They would later begin a 50 year marriage and take up residence in Syracuse NY. In the 1950's they, along with many others, were founding members of St. Ann's parish in Syracuse. As a mother to three, she led a life of instilling strong Catholic values in her children. She and Bob enjoyed traveling together especially winter trips to Hawaii and visits to Fr. Damien's mission in Molokai. Jane maintained a devotion to Saint Marianne Cope throughout her life.
She was an active volunteer at Syracuse Memorial and Community General Hospital. Following Robert's passing in 1997, she volunteered for 16 years as a group facilitator at Hope for Bereaved, counseling older widows and widowers.
She will be missed by many who enjoyed her Irish wit and storytelling ability along with her very amateur performance skills.
Jane was predeceased by her husband Robert in 1997 and her son Robert Michael in 2003 and two infant daughters. She is survived by a son Daniel (Jackie) of Marcellus, a daughter Lauren of Webster NY and a daughter in law Frances of Grapevine TX. Also grandchildren Sarah, Jessica, Megan, Stephen, Brian, Martha, Susan and Kevin, 11 great grandchildren and dear cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call on Tuesday June 13 from 4-7PM at Edward Ryan and Sons Funeral Home, Bellevue Ave. Syracuse NY. A funeral mass will celebrated at 10 AM on June 14 at St. Ann's Church, Onondaga Blvd., Syracuse.
