Obituary of Isabelle A. Carter
Isabelle A. Carter, a lifelong resident of Syracuse and Bridgeport, New York, passed away on April 9, with family by her side. The daughter of John and Isabelle O’Brien, she was born on August 7, 1925, and graduated from St. Anthony of Padua High School in Syracuse. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her early married life was spent raising 6 very active boys. Isabelle loved to have fun, ensuring that her children and especially her grandchildren had many wonderful memories made of time with her at Grandma’s house on Onieda Lake with overnights, lake time and family gatherings on the deck. An avid, competitive bridge player, she was proud of her many tournament wins making sure that even out of town family members received newspaper clippings detailing them. Her work at American Airlines catering unit Skychef located at Hancock International Airport afforded her flight benefits allowing her to travel all over the world, even in retirement. You always had to be careful if you asked Isabelle for advice because she would give it to you straight!
She was predeceased by her husband, William Carter, her son, David Carter, grandson, Alex Carter and great grandson, Bennett McLaughlin, as well as her parents and brother Francis O’Brien. She is survived by her sons, Edward (Elimara) of Colorado, John (Jeannette) of Camillus, Robert (Joanne) of Florida, Paul (Janet) of Kansas, Peter (Kathleen) of Syracuse, and daughter-in-law Jeanne Carter, fourteen grandchildren, and twenty-one great grandchildren.
