Obituary of Carol Ann Dooher
Carol Ann (Christopher) Dooher passed away peacefully at Francis House with her loving husband and sister by her side on July 2, 2021. Born on November 1, 1948 in Syracuse, New York, daughter of deceased parents, Carl and June (Lucas) Christopher. She attended St. Brigid's Grammar School and graduated from St. Patrick’s High School. Carol then graduated from the Continental School of Beauty where she became a N.Y.S. Certified Cosmetologist. Early on, she was a waitress at the Poor House West and she owned Carol’s Beauty Shop on Tipperary Hill in Syracuse for over 25 years. Carol spent several years working at the Onondaga County BOE and retired as the Executive Secretary of OCWEP. She received several Onondaga County Certificates of Recognition and was known as the “Rain Barrel Lady ” as she was instrumental in the development of the Save the Rain Program. Carol was also actively involved in Ovarian Cancer Survivors advocacy.
Carol is predeceased by her brother, Carl Christopher Jr. She is survived by her husband, George B. Dooher Jr. stepson, George B. (Lauren) Dooher III, stepdaughter, Melissa A. Ossenfort, grandchildren, George B. Dooher IV and Kaelee M. Ossenfort, sister, Jan (Mark) Smithers, aunt, Sharon DiMura, nephews, Lance and Jason Smithers, niece, Corey Christopher, sister-in-law, Anne Lynn, brother-in-law, Michael Dooher and numerous cousins.
Carol was a wonderful, loving, caring wife, daughter, sister, stepmother, nana, aunt, cousin and friend. She was well known for her delicious Italian cookies. Carol was a twenty year member of the Onondaga County Republican Committee and worked on many political campaigns. She cherished the many close friendships she made throughout her life. Her compassion and kindness led her to help many. She was always generous to those in need. Carol will always be remembered for her incredible amount of faith and inner strength.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday July 9, 2021 at 10am at St. Patrick's Church, 217 N. Lowell Ave. Calling Hours will be held Thursday July 8, 2021 from 4-7pm at the Edward J. Ryan & Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Avenue, Syracuse. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Dewitt.
