Susan and I extend our heartfelt condolences to Patty, Delaney, and family. We were across-the-street neighbors from the Nolans and saw firsthand what a wonderful person, husband, father, and public servant that John was everyday. John's kindness and warm smile made being around him an absolute pleasure and a great gift. He will be missed but never forgotten. May God and family give you strength and comfort.

I had the pleasure of working with John at the DA’s office, and I am so grateful to have known him. John was always ready and willing to help, no matter the task, and he always got the job done with ease, pride, and finesse! If John was assigned to your case, you just knew you were in the absolute best hands. He was truly one of a kind.
It was so evident how much he loved and adored his family - my sincerest condolences to his family, loved ones, and colleagues for this tremendous loss.

Patty and Delaney,
There are no words that can describe how much pain you both are going through. Please know of my deepest prayers for you both that God will give you the strength and comfort to make it through each day. I knew John (and both of you) from the running community more specifically the Mountain Goat races as John was always the competitor. We would always banter back and forth about how fast or more recently how slow we were going to race. Every year I always looked forward to seeing him and throughout the years both of you as you both were his cheerleaders. In just those minutes before the race was to start we would catch up as if a year had not passed, wish each other well and hit the pavement. This past year the race was held in October and I am thankful that I saw him, and you Patty as it was a happy day. I am going to remember those moments of how seeing John every year at the start line was a tradition as was seeing his great smile and receiving his great big bear hug. I think I can speak for the Mountain Goat community of runners that John will truly be missed. May God hold both of you in the palm of His hand.

So shocked and saddened by the loss of John. John grew up in my neighborhood and was good friends with my brother, so I've known him most of my life. Reconnected with him when our daughters were in 2nd grade playing basketball. He was a class act. A great father, husband, friend, just a super guy. He always had a fondest for the Mocciaro family, which meant a lot to us, and we were always proud to say we knew John from when he was a kid to when he became a decorated police officer. Lana and I will miss him and our hearts go out to both of you and the rest of your family.

Patti and Delaney:
I had the privilege of working with John for nearly 25 years at the Syracuse Police Department. My fondest memories of John are not those related to his actions as an officer; in that arena, he was without peer. My memories are of seeing John bring Delaney through the weight room as they were going upstairs to practice her free throws for the national competition she entered in and excelled at. Years later I would I would be taking my children through the same weight room to also practice basketball in the upstairs gym. John always had a kind word and a smile on his face when seeing my children on those occasions. That is as great a legacy as any of which I can think.

I am literally stunned to hear that John Nolan has passed away. I always thought he was the picture of health. I "met" John Nolan when he was working in CID back in October of 1992. He took me to jail. In 1994 when I was doing art therapy at Hutchings Psychiatric Center I made some things for some of the Detectives in CID, including Detective Nolan. I made him an ashtray of all things!! I haven't spoken to him in decades. My sincere condolences to his immediate family and friends, and of course his LEO family.
