Obituary of Edward J. Moran

Edward James (Ed) Moran, 83, of Syracuse, New York, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2022 while surrounded by loving family.

He grew up on Tipperary Hill and was a lifelong Syracuse resident.   Ed attended St. Patrick’s School where he met the love of his life and wife of 58 years Sharon (Rhoades) Moran.   

Ed graduated from Lemoyne College with a bachelor degree in accounting and had a long, successful career as a CPA.  He was a founding partner of Firley, Moran, Freer and Eassa, CPA, PC (FMF&E).   Ed was very generous with his time.  He served as a volunteer or Board member with numerous non-profit organizations including St. Michael’s, AccessCNY, Arc of Onondaga, Brady Faith Center and West Point Candidate Review Committee, amongst others.  In retirement Ed enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends including trips to Ireland, Italy and France.  He cherished spending time with family and his many friends from St. Pat’s, Winkworth, Bellevue Country Club and FMF&E.

Ed is survived by his wife Sharon, his children Ellen Moran, Karen (Mark) Popp, Jim Moran and Mark (Kelly) Moran, his grandchildren Abigail (Abby) and Edward (Teddy) Popp, his sister Mary Pat Coleman, along with many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents James and Marian (Diamond) Moran.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 20, 2022 at 10am at St. Michael’s Church, 4781 West Seneca Turnpike.   Calling hours will be held Thursday, May 19, 2022 from 4 to 7pm at Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave, Syracuse.  Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Marcellus. 

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Upstate Medical Hospital for the care they provided during Ed’s short illness.
