Obituary of Anne Congel
Anne Barry Congel passed away peacefully on June 29, 2022, at the age of 84 after a long illness. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Anne was born on September 28, 1937, in Drombane, Thurles, County Tipperary, Ireland. She was the fifth of nine children of Anne and James Barry. Although Anne loved her native Ireland, she emigrated to the United States and was very proud to become a U.S. citizen. Anne graduated from St. Joseph’s Nursing School in Syracuse, NY in 1961. She went on to work at St. Joseph’s hospital for 40 years and frequently volunteered there after her retirement.
Anne was extremely proud of her family, and could be counted on to brag on all of her grandchildren to anyone who would listen. Although a proud U.S. citizen, Anne continued to love all things Irish including music, dance and culture, and she would always take the time to listen to her Irish music and catch up with her Irish friends and relatives, here and abroad.
Anne is predeceased by her infant daughter, Frances, parents, Anne and James Barry, her brother, Mick Barry and sisters, Noreen Barry, and Mary Carey of Syracuse. She is survived by her husband, Peter Congel of Syracuse and her children, Maureen, Patricia (Tyler), Anne Marie (Doug), Kathleen (John), Colleen (Dan), and Tony (Erin); beloved grandchildren, Ryan (Melanie) Bloom, Morgan (Ryder) Bloom, Eric (Kiran) Orcutt, Brittany Orcutt, Jack and Maggie Dalgety, Mairead, Aine and Seamus McIntyre, Brayden and Emmett Congel and great grandson, Andrew Bloom. She is also survived by her brother, Fr. Phil Barry of Drombane, Thurles, County Tipperary, Ireland, sisters, Kathleen Barry and Judy Campbell of England, sister, Margaret Halpenny (Tom) of California and brother Seamus Barry (Noreen) of Drombane, Thurles, County Tipperary, Ireland, and many nieces and nephews.
Anne will be missed by all who knew and cherished her.
